While focused on school environments, Jenkins’ approach can be adapted to the many nonprofit organizations and government agencies whose work impacts the lives and success of children and families.

SAM’s Advisory & Governance/Personnel Committee shall consist of such number as the Board may designate from time to time, to be comprised of officers of the Corporation, or others designated by the Board. The Committee ensures that the board is equipped with the proper guidelines and structures to do its work most effectively.
The Committee sets Board operation policy for continuous improvement of quality of board directors and decision-making process in matters coming before the Board. It is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, and education of directors. It conducts board, board member, and committee effectiveness assessments, as well as the annual evaluation of the Executive Director’s performance. It defines the roles and responsibilities of directors and is the principal committee in leadership development and succession planning for officers of the Board. The Committee also directs the overall human resources and risk management strategies and policies of SAM.

This month’s meeting of the Out-of-School-Time Collaborative draws attention to the importance of “Representation” - ensuring that the vibrant and valuable facets of a community are represented in program development.
The Collective Impact & Program Committee ensures the services, programs, and goals of SAM are consistent with the purposes of our StriveTogether and Blue Meridian Partnerships. Central to this committee’s work will be its focus on SAM’s Strategic Initiatives, StriveTogether’s Systems Transformation agenda, and the recently established Blue Meridian Partnership’s Power of Place milestones and comprehensive framework..

This is a training open to members of SAM’s Out-of-School-Time Collaborative and is a required training for participation in the 2021 Summer Shakedown.

SAM’s Audit Committee provides oversight of the audit process, the organization’s system of internal controls, and compliance with laws and regulations. Committee members meet with external auditors to discuss matters that the committee or auditors believe should be discussed, reviews proposed audit approaches and coordinates the audit effort with internal audit staff.

SAM’s Finance Committee ensures the organization maintains sound fiscal health. The committee provides oversight of the financial reporting process. The Committee also assists the Board of Directors in development and facility expansion initiatives and/or in the development of operational policies designed to achieve operational and programmatic efficiency and reduce exposure to risk. Information technology security and operational matters fall under this committee.

Continuous Improvement 101 for our Community helps those working in nonprofit, civic agency and educational settings gain an understanding of the basic principles of continuous improvement science and how they integrate into mission-centered environments and programs. Increase impact, communicate results, and strengthen our community by integrating CI in your work.

Brief: The C2C Experience personally connects participants to what’s happening in Spartanburg County education and equity issues found at the heart of efforts to improve economic mobility, anchored in academic achievement.
Learn: Learn the latest achievement statistics for Spartanburg County students, while gaining valuable insight into drivers for those statistics – ones that often impact students from all communities and backgrounds.
Note: Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, this in-person event is limited to 12 participants. SAM offers these experiences free of charge to groups of 12 or more. This event is held through the Spartanburg Academic Movement, the purpose of our agency is to create economic mobility anchored in academic achievement both county wide and from cradle to career. This session will focus on the importance of the OST (Out of School Time ). This event will engage our community and promote positive dialogue about what's happening and what steps to take going forward. This conversation is needed to both understand county issues but to also create a space for people to learn and grow as individuals.
