Early Development
The first 5 years of life are very important for your child because experiences during these years set the stage for success in school and in later life. During infancy and early childhood, your child will grow and learn at an amazing rate. It is our challenge as parents or guardians to ensure that each child’s development proceeds well during this period. The Spartanburg Academic Movement is pleased to offer the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, 3rd Edition (ASQ-3) to help meet this challenge! It is free of charge to Spartanburg County families with children from Birth to age 5. For more information and resources about your child’s development, visit www.hellofamilyspartanburg.org.

Developmental Tookit
From birth onward, children begin a journey toward kindergarten readiness. SAM offers a parent Toolkit, which is an educational and monitoring resource. It is a publication being used in many local child care centers and is available to families free of charge. The Toolkit monitors the journey from birth to kindergarten so it has a potential lifespan of 5 years. A sample of the Toolkit is provided here.
For a deep look at the “why” behind our emphasis on early development, and building the community level support for this key learning stage, we recommend viewing this 2-hour national program: “Starting at Zero.”
