To Kickoff the Out-of-School Time Collaborative’s 2020 action planning, Dr. Susan Thomas and Priscilla Litte, experts in social emotional learning and high impact out-of-school-time programming will share best-practices for program providers. We will also review the plans for the 2020 Summer Shakedown including qualifications for submitting your summer programs for free publicity and how the youth you serve may be able to access the pool of scholarship funds available. Our Presenters

Dr. Susan Thomas brings extensive experience in public school education in the classroom, district, and South Carolina Department of Education settings, as well as leadership experiences from the Glen Forest School for students with disabilities and the Awsaj Academy in Doha, Qatar. She has served on South Carolina Council for Exceptional Children, and was a contributing author in Handbook of Leadership and Administration for Special Education. Dr. Thomas has spent her career building effective instruction, positive behavior interventions and supports, and special education leadership. She has led work to implement strategies to building social emotional learning capacity across across all 7 Spartanburg County School Districts. Her presentation will focus on how OST providers can complement and build upon the work happening in our schools.

Priscilla M. Little is a Senior Consultant with the Forum for Youth Investment’s Big Picture Approach Consulting group, where she helps leaders understand and apply the science of learning and development to promote equitable learning environments. She has served as consultant for the Aspen Institute, working closely on coalition building for the National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development and oversaw The Wallace Foundation’s $15 million effort to assist nine cities in providing more high-quality afterschool programs through a coordinated systems approach. The former Associate Director of the Harvard Family Research Project, Priscilla has been working in education and conducting educational research for more than 20 years, with a particular emphasis on research and evaluation to support and improve after school experiences.
